Sharp Teeth - A Must Read

Sharpteeth184x300 Sharp Teeth by Toby Barlow

This is by far the best book I have read in a very long time.

It is a 300 page poem about surfers, lawyers, the dog catcher and lycanthropes in modern Los Angeles.

One of the aspects I enjoy is that it takes place in LA. I spent 25 to 35 there living on the beach. The book references places I know every well.

Read A Book!

Anyone that knows me, knows that I love books. Reading is a great gift and readers are sexy. Very sexy.

Books are a great resource for D/s-BDSM information than the internet (chat-rooms, IMing, blogs, or websites). Any idiot can create a website (Hey, I did it!). However, books are reviewed by peers in the subject matter and it takes some effort to get it published.

Holly?

SFCityDom (C) 2007

I just finished reading Truman Capote's “Breakfast at Tiffany's” for the second time. This is one of my favorite books. Many may find that surprising. However,I am always a sucker for a romantically tragic story and for those that know me well, they will understand.

Many of you are familiar with the 1961 movie staring Audrey Hepburn and George Peppard. The movie is substantially different than the book. The structure, the narrative, characters... The movie is a romantic comedy. The book is not funny. The book, as written, could never have been made into a movie in 1961.

The story is told from the point of view of a writer “Fred” telling the story of Holly ten years after last seeing her. When he meets Holly, she is a 19 year old woman from nowhere. The setting for the book is New York during 1944.

Submission: A Novel

Submisisonbool

I finished reading Submission: A Novel by Marthe Blau.

The book is written from the submissive's point of view. We follow Elodeie as she falls under the spell of a dominant and becomes obsessed with him. The author uses capitals for the pronouns that reference the dominant, which, if you have read my blog, you know I think is asinine.

The insight and feelings of a submissive are always interesting for me to read. The pain and struggle and doubt. However about 50 pages into the book you can pretty much guess how it’s going to end.

Overall, It is a decent quick read.

I will not give up anymore detail of the book. Don't want to ruin it for others.

Anyone else read the book? Please post comments with spoilers and I will add my comments also.

WARNING! Comments may and will contain spoilers.

I actually like the French cover much better. However, I doubt you could have gotten it on the shelf at Borders.Submissionfrench_2

The Scent of Your Breath

Sentofyourbreath SFCityDom (c) 2006

I remember a line from a song: “Maybe it’s not quite legal, but you look great covered in bruises.” From The Scent of Your Breath by Melissa P. I finish this book on the train this morning. The book is written as an open letter to her mother. The main theme, better to feel pain then to feel nothing at all.

I think the word craft is better in this book then her first. However, the story and the raw details of the first, are missing. Nevertheless, it is a good quick read.

Anyone else read it?

And then lick them again

Sentofyourbreath_1 SFCityDom (c) 2006

I gave myself to him because he was the only one at that moment in time who could lick my wounds. Lick then, open them up, and make them burn. And then lick them again.

From The Scent of Your Breath by Melissa P.

This is a great paragraph. I just started this book this evening. This is the sequel to 100 Strokes of the Brush Before Bed.

Two Good Books

SFCityDom (c) 2006

Snakeanderrings First, Snakes and Earrings by Hitomi Kanehara.

The story takes places in contemporary Japan. Deals with Japanese tattoo/body modification underground and follows 19 year woman, Lui, and her two lovers Ama a punk and Shiba a tattoo artist. Very nihilistic feel to the main character, lots of meaningless pleasures and deviant sex. With a rather interesting ending.

Innocentworld Next, Innocent World by Ami Sakurai.

This story also takes place in contemporary Japan. The story follows Ami, a high school age woman in Tokyo. She prostitutes herself in the search of her origins. Again very nihilistic feel and lots of deviant sex.

If you liked 100 Strokes of the Brush Before Bed by Melissa P, you should also enjoy these books.

Snakes and Earrings

“I couldn’t understand why he bothered to take care of a girl he couldn’t fuck.”

From “Snakes and Earrings” by Hitomi Kanehara.

A good read. This line stood out for me.

100 Strokes of the Brush Before Bed

100strokes_1 SFCityDom (C) 2006

Somewhere between age 12 and 16, a girl becomes a woman. Girls suddenly find themselves with a woman’s body. In chatting with women, they have expressed that it is difficult, needing to handle the sexual attraction of men while they’re still interested in playing with Barbie-dolls. It is at this time that some act out and become self-destructive.

This is something most men don’t understand. Men don’t have to leave the boy in order to be come a man. Society tolerates men being boys.

However, our culture sexualizes girls and expects them to become women over night.

100 Strokes of the Brush Before Bed by Melissa P. covers a Italian youths coming of of age. The books is structured as her journal. The journal entries follow her through her decline into self-destructive behavior and self-discovery.

The book is good and sometimes quite graphic. Nevertheless, It is a good read for men and gives us in sight into the angst girls go through as the become women.

Has anyone else read the book?
