Secretary

Secretary SFCityDom (c) 2006

Have has seen Secretary?

What did you think?

It was about 3 years ago, my officemate told me about the weird movie he had rented over the weekend. He told me the name of if, Secretary, however he would not tell me the storyline. He just said it was very weird.

I had not heard of it before that day. It just slipped through my radar. I went to Amazon.com and looked up the film. Oddly, I found the subject matter of interest and order a copy to be delivered to my home instead of the office. When I arrived home Friday evening, It was there waiting for me. I watched that evening.

Monday morning, I mentioned to my officemate that I had seen the movie. He asked what did I think, I replied “Isn’t great that two people can find love.” That was all I said. He didn’t have a follow up questions.

I thought the movie was good. Three scenes really stand out for me:

The first is when he catchers cutting herself.

Mr. Grey: I'm going to tell you something. Are you ready to listen?
Lee: Yes.
Mr. Grey: Are you listening? You will never... ever... cut yourself again. Do you understand? Have I made that perfectly clear? You're over that now. It's in the past.
Lee: Yes.
Mr. Grey: Never again.

He just takes over and tells her how it is going to be, a very powerful scene.

The next scene I really like was when she is walking around the office in black pumps, sheer black hose, a white blouse, with her neck and wrist secured by the metal stock. She is protected and empowered. The scene shows her going from the weak-drab girl to this sexy woman.

However, the best scene is towards the end, when he bathes her after she has been through her ordeal. She is there with all her scars, both physical and mental, and all he sees is beauty. You can’t watch that with out feeling something.

Isn’t this what we all want, someone who will take you in with all of your scars and see just beauty.

Damn!
